Tarvastu, officially the North American Republic of Tarvastu (Tarv-Estonian: Põhja-Ameerika Vabariik Tarvastu), is a parliamentiary republic in North America, Consisting of Greater Tarvastu and the Öökullmaa Tarvasian Territory.

History of Tarvastu.

The first settlers on the area were native Americans who used Vihlus bay as a small summer fishing camp. The earliest archaeological discoveries date back to 560 CE.
The first Europeans believed to have stepped foot on Tarvasian land were Viking settlers who stayed briefly on Viinapuudemaa and from the Epics of Nordon the Great are believed to have traded actively with the natives.

In 1512 a group of ethnic Estonians, under Livonian rule, landed a small ship on what became Linna. They named the land 'Tarvastu" after their region of origin and set camp on the plains of southern Tarvastu. The camp, was suprisely successful and soon grew into a small town.

After the success of the first settlement over the next 30 years five more ships were sent by the Livonian Navy to settle the land and create a Livonian colony. In order to facilitate communication between the new and old settlers they once again recruited Estonian settlers, which was under Livonian rule at the time. The first two ships arrived in 1521 with 200 people, they landed at Soovide bay and created a new town taking over the lands frequented by Native Americans, they were able to avoid conflict by trade. They settled up on a limestone cliff side and quickly started building a stone and timber wall around the settlements to protect the new village. This was to become the largest of the colonial cities.

The fourth ship arrived in 1532 settling along a cliff-side in Tangdutt, again, following the example of Soovide, a small wall was built around the village. A road was built from Tangdutt to Linna to facilitate trade, and communication. The people of the small village quickly started charting the northern sections of the colonial claim, their maps and charts were sent back to Livonia, who in return sent a fifth ship in 1545.

This final Livonian ship arrived in Vihlus bay, settled a small hill and with the help of the other settlements built a wall around the settlement.

Fall of Livonia, Swedish Rule.

In 1561 Livonia falls to the Swedish Empire, who had great great ambitions for this colony. Although the colonists refused to accept the change of power they still needed the trade from Europe so there was little that could be done.

For many years the colony continued to grow rarely seeing new settlers from Sweden a group of Tarvasians decided to take it on their hands to remind the crown of their presence. The night of July 15th 1670 they burned down every Swedish ship in every port of the colony. This cost the swedes greatly for pretty soon war in Europe costed them their territories.

Russian Tarvastu

Finally in 1721 Sweden's territories fall to Russia, Tarvastu, the most successful colony north of New York was part of the deal. This shift in rule angered the colonists so much that in 1730 a small revolt started in Linna who declared everything found within the city walls an independent territory, It took 2 years for the news to reach Russia, The overly exaggerated description of the events led Russia to think the whole colony had declared its independence.

Russian Intervention.

Finally in 1735 a Russian Naval fleet reached Tarvastu to stop a non-existent revolt, the people confused by the events began fearing that the Russian rule wanted to introduce more Ethnic Russians into the colony and replace the Estonian culture. In 1740 a secret society was formed in the basement of the Soovide Colonial Hall. They called themselves "Sons of Igs" after Ivo Igorsmott who had in 1670 burned the Swedish ships at port.

Sons of Igs and the Soovide Revolt.
April 4th 1745 the Russian crown ordered the colony to pay 15% of all monetary possessions to the Navy to enable the creation of a new settlement, this once again angered the Tarvasians who were ready to go into unorganized riots. That same night Timo Randpere, a young member of the Sons of Igs climbed to the top of the Soovide Colonial Hall and with the help of two other men removed and dropped the bell from atop the tower, the sound was said to be so loud it awoke the whole city. He then ran into the streets climbed his horse and with sword at hand called for every able-bodied person to follow him towards Vihlus, where the Russians had established base.

The revolt took the Russian navy by surprise as they found themselves completely outnumbered by the 5,000 men force led by Timo. Although the night was bright with a full moon no battle was fought, but a decree was signed by the Russian General and Igors Vaint, the Head of the Colonial council. This decree known as the Treaty of Vihlus called for a stronger Tarvasian government and the removal of half of the Russian army from Tarvastu.

Siege of Linna.

The year that followed the signing was extremely tense, a response hadn't been issued from Russia and the colonists were waiting for the worst. Knowing the Russian crown would not take kindly to their requests Timo once again organized a special group of men to hijack the Russian Naval fleet. April 7th 1746, almost a year after the first revolt, Timo lead a secret mission onto the Naval ships, successfully capturing all but one. With the help of the highly skilled Öökulle navigators they swiftly took the each ship into a different port where they were joined by more men, the last remaining ship was given to "...all Russians" to board and leave to avoid war. The hijacking happened right on time, as three days later a Royal Naval Fleet arrived, in response to the Treaty of Vihlus, with no earlier notice ready to retake control of the colony. After a series of naval battles the Tarvasians were forced into the fortified cities where they were able to withstand the attacks, finality in 1747 after two major battles fought in Kask and Hingett the Russian army found itself again greatly outnumbered, and surrendered.

Independence.
"By the Tarvasians and for the Tarvasians, Time has come to represent our beliefs and expectations of our rule, and by no other, but that of ourselves. Settled by our fathers and now inhabited by our brothers, Tarvastu is to be under the rule of no one but our own. We, in accordance and support of the people of Öökullmaa, declare This land, these People and our rights and laws independent from all ancient European divine lines. New land, New country, New People, New law. For Freedom, For Unity, For Respect, For Labor. All or Nothing."
-Opening paragraph of the Tarvasian Independence Monument Treaty; Igors Vaint,  May 15th 1747
